Classic Beef Chili: A Hearty, Flavor-Packed Comfort Dish

On a cold day, nothing beats a hot bowl of Classic Beef Chilli to sate appetites.  This dish creates a rich, filling supper by balancing creamy beans, smokey spices, and delicate ground beef. Serve over rice, with cornbread, or with your preferred toppings!

Ingredients:
1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20 lean/fat for best flavor)
1 large onion, diced
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 bell pepper, diced (any color)
1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained
1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
2 tbsp tomato paste
2 cups beef broth
2 tbsp chili powder
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust for heat)
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
2 tbsp olive oil

Optional Toppings:
Shredded cheese, sour cream, cilantro, jalapeños, avocado

Utensils Needed
Sharp chef’s knife (for dicing veggies)
Large Dutch oven or heavy pot (for even cooking)
Wooden spoon
Measuring spoons/cups

Prep time: fifteen minutes
Cook for 45 minutes.
One hour in total.

Directions
The Aromatics are sautéed:
In a pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat.  Add the bell pepper, garlic, and onion.  Sauté until softened, 3–4 minutes.

Brown the meat:
Using a wooden spoon, break up the ground meat.  Cook for about 5 to 6 minutes, or until no pink is left.  If necessary, drain extra fat.

Add the tomatoes and spices:
Stir in the cayenne, paprika, cumin, chilli powder, salt, and pepper.  Add diced tomatoes and beef broth after mixing in tomato paste.

Bring to a boil:
Then lower the heat to simmer for depth.  Simmer, covered, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes.  In the final ten minutes, add the beans.

Adjust & Serve:
If necessary, taste and adjust the salt and spice.  Serve hot with your preferred toppings.
