Ingredients
For the Tiramisu:
6 large egg yolks
3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
1 cup (240ml) strong espresso or coffee, cooled
1/4 cup (60ml) coffee liqueur (optional)
1 pound (450g) mascarpone cheese
1 cup (240ml) heavy cream, whipped to soft peaks
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 package (7oz/200g) ladyfinger biscuits (savoiardi)
Unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting

Directions
Get the cream mixture ready:
Whisk the sugar and egg yolks together in a mixing dish until they are creamy and light. Keeping the bowl's bottom away from the water, set it over a pot of heating water. Whisk continuously until thickened, about 5 to 7 minutes. Take off the heat and let it to cool a little.
Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese until well blended. Pour in some vanilla extract.
Whip the Cream:
Beat the heavy cream until it forms soft peaks in a different bowl. Until the mascarpone mixture is smooth and airy, gently fold in the whipped cream.
To make the coffee mixture:
Put the coffee liqueur and cooled espresso in a shallow bowl.

Place moistened ladyfingers in a layer at the dish's bottom.
Evenly cover the ladyfingers with half of the mascarpone mixture.
Continue layering, and then top with a layer of mascarpone.
To chill and serve:
Place the dish in the refrigerator for at least four to six hours or overnight, covered with plastic wrap.
Before serving, dust the top with a large amount of cocoa powder. Cut into slices and serve cold.
