Share
The Sharp Blades blog welcomes you! We're delving into the craft of creating artisan bread at home today. This recipe is simple to follow and yields a loaf with a crispy top and a soft, flavourful centre, regardless of your level of culinary skill. This is the ideal chance to utilise your favourite knife!
Ingredients:
3 1/4 cups (400g) all-purpose flour
1 1/4 cups (300ml) warm water
2 tsp (7g) salt
1 tsp (4g) sugar
1 tsp (3g) instant yeast
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Dough
Mix the yeast, sugar, salt, and flour in a big bowl. Add warm water a little at a time and stir until the dough comes together. It will have a slight sticky quality. Place a moist cloth over the bowl and leave it to rest at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours.
2. Shape the Dough
Lightly dust a surface once the dough has risen and is bubbling. Transfer the dough gently, then fold it into a circle. Retain air pockets by not overworking. After 30 minutes of repose, cover it once again.
3. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and place a heavy pot or Dutch oven inside (with a lid).
4. Bake the Bread
Remove the heated Dutch oven from the oven with caution. Bake for half an hour after putting the dough inside and covering it. Take off the lid and continue baking for another fifteen minutes to achieve a crispy, golden crust.
5. Cool and Slice
Before slicing, allow the bread to cool on a wire rack. For crisp, accurate slices, use a bread knife with sharp blades. Use a Sharp Blades bread knife for clean, precise slices.
Tips for Success:
For the best yeast activation, use water that is room temperature.
Cutting sticky dough can be made easier using a knife that has been lightly oiled, such as our 8-inch Damascus Bread Knife.
Try incorporating herbs or seeds into the dough to create interesting flavours.
The Significance of the Proper Knife
When it comes time to cut your bread, the quality of your knife is crucial. You will always get bakery-quality slices thanks to our 8-inch Damascus Bread Knife, which makes crisp cuts without crushing your bread.
